Summary

This project aims to develop and operate cold storage facilities and refrigerated transport systems in Ghana to reduce severe post-harvest losses, which currently range from 5% to 45% depending on the crop. By improving preservation of perishable foods, it supports higher farmer incomes, increased food availability, and greater resilience across the agricultural value chain. The opportunity shows strong commercial potential, with expected returns above 25% IRR and short payback periods of 3–5 years. It also enables significant social impact by supporting women—who dominate agro-processing and food distribution—and strengthening food security through reduced waste and access to off-season products. The initiative aligns with national policies prioritising post-harvest management, agricultural productivity, and private-sector investment in value-adding infrastructure.
